M.I.A.’s middle finger blunder at the Super Bowl halftime show has disappointed NBC and the NFL, causing both to issue a statement of apology.
M.I.A., who has become known for her outspoken and boundary pushing behavior, continued in typical fashion last night by flipping off the camera while delivering the line, “I don’t give a shit” during her solo.
NBC and the NFL issued separate statements apologizing for a delay in the censor system which failed to catch the rapper’s gesture in time. Apparently, M.I.A did not use the gesture in the rehearsals for the show, and she has yet to comment on the performance.
